Floods in Austin

We've gotten a lot of inquiries about the flooding in Austin over the weekend. Thankfully, we live at higher elevation and did not experience the destruction many of the lower-lying areas of town did. But we did get to enjoy quite the show. 

Outside of Singapore, I've never seen a downpour of this intensity. Photos don't really do it justice. 

Yep, that would be a backed up storm drain in front of our driveway. About 4-6" of water were flooding down our driveway at the peak.

And this is where all that water was headed - through the gate and into our back yard!

We had a little water in our play room, so Neal shoveled out the leaves and muck that were causing water to back up above the level of the play room slab (which is, thankfully, about a foot lower than the rest of the house, which stayed nice and dry).

Making the most of rainy weather

After being cooped up with a sick little brother and lethargic parents most of the day, Graydon just had to get some fidgets out.

Graduation Glitter

Graydon "graduated" from preschool yesterday. Starting this fall, he'll be attending kindergarten at the elementary school. One of the highlights were balloons that had blue glitter on the inside. Graydon was allowed to take one home at the end of the reception. Unfortunately, it didn't make it home. Instead, it popped loudly at Torchy's, the restaurant where we went for lunch afterward. Graydon was quite distraught until he realized it had showered us all with blue glitter. Here's what he looked like post-ballon-glitter-explosion. A day and a half later, I am still finding blue glitter everywhere, even inside Portia's diaper...

This is one of three (very cute) newborn size outfits Portia is going to outgrow in short order. She's already outgrown a hand-me-down monkey suit. Have to capture photos while we can! I think she already looks chubbier than when we came home from the hospital a little over a week ago, too.

It was time for Portia's weekly bath. (Yes, she's already a week old!) I think I remember Graydon looking equally shell-shocked after his first bath ("What the heck just happened to me?!?")

Body Art

Wiley's teachers say he has no interest in art... evidently they just hadn't found the right medium yet! Ralf's response was "This is what happens when the au pair goes to the bathroom."

Crème Brûlée

Wiley REALLY liked his Crème Brûlée this evening. Graydon helped make it and liked the caramelized crust on top, but decided that the rest was too gooey. Wiley was more than happy to eat big brother's reject.

Proud Big Brother

After weeks of sitting on our dining room table, Graydon (with only some help - mostly company - from Mami and Daddy) finally finished his 500-piece big-person puzzle. No kid designation of any kind on this one. It was a legitimately hard puzzle!

Portia on Skype

A sign of the times - Portia was on Skype at the ripe old age of 3 days.

Hooray!

Portia couldn't wait to come home! She thought the car ride was fascinating, too. More eyes open than any other time so far.

Good morning girls!

We had a good night last night, in part due to the wonderful, if short-lived, option of letting the nurses take Portia away to the nursery for a few hours. Now we're just hanging out at the hospital waiting on paperwork to be able to go home.

The Backup Team

Gramps is helping Graydon assemble his new Lego set that he got from his baby sister. Wiley is napping. Ralf, Nana, and Gramps have been doing a great job holding down the fort while we're at the hospital.

Hearing Test Success

Portia passed this morning's hearing test with flying colors - all while nestled in Daddy's warm, snuggly lap.

Big Brothers

The boys got to meet their little sister this afternoon. Graydon was amazed at how small she was and Wiley liked her feet.

Portia Katharina Emelie

Portia Katharina Emelie Tanner was born at 05:22 on May 7, 2015. She weighed 3320 g and measured 54.6 cm long. She and Mami are and doing well.

Fancy Dinner at New Patio Furniture!

We had a great family dinner at our new patio furniture tonight. Graydon helped prepare the salad!

Wiley is just enjoying a lazy afternoon at a friend's house.

Highwaters

Graydon put on one of his favorite pair of pajama pants the other evening to discover that they had somehow gotten shorter. I managed to get my phone out while he was still laughing about it.
